Your toddler will love these 6 practical activities

When you run out of ideas for fun activities for your toddler you may find out that doing simple, every day things works magic!

When children are around 2 years old they love to help at home. Actually, they are extremely practical, which means that they want to do real things, the same things that we do.

Here is the list of activities that you can engage your child daily:

1. packing/unpacking dishwasher - remove all sharp knives and other dangerous items first. Guide them where to put it or let them pass it to you
2. Setting the table - let them carry the cutlery, napkins, small plates and cups
3. Sweeping the floor - you may think of investing into buying mini broom for them to use
4. Washing windows - use water with a little vinegar in a flower sprayer (put as much water as you want to clean šŸ˜) and a cloth. The best will be a long window or mirror, reaching to the floor.
5. Cleaning spills - every time they spill something you can give them a cloth and let them clean first
6. Sorting laundry, putting it in the washing machine - it can be a practice of colours as well.

Things to remember.

Donā€™t expect the outcome. Toddlers are focused on the process not the result. They are mastering their skills, like eye-hand coordination, pincer grip, balance, they are building their muscles.

Child while talking to ā€” Maria Montessori

By being with you, engaging in daily-life activities they feel they belong to this family, they feel valued and important.

Be their model, show how to do things, correct after them (when they donā€™t see it!) but donā€™t interrupt their work.

When your child is focusing on the task donā€™t talk to them, donā€™t break their concentration. You want them to extend the focus time and this is their practice.

React/help when frustration comes but donā€™t be too fast to help.
